Adult DBT Group New!


DBT means Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and DBT skills are basically life skills. This group is a psychoeducational skills based group, which includes set topics each week, focused on helping group members learn new coping skills.  This group is not meant to delve into personal problems, and group conversations are centered on the specific topic and skill set for the week.  The general goal of the DBT group is to learn and refine skills in changing behavioral, emotional, and thinking patterns associated with problems in living that cause misery and distress.  This group is meant to help people move from being out of control to being in control. Specific goals include:


  • Decrease confusion about self and increase mindfulness skills;
  • Decrease impulsiveness and increase distress tolerance;
  • Decrease unsteady moods and emotions, and increase emotional regulation;
  • Decrease interpersonal chaos and increase interpersonal effectiveness.

**Group participants should be able to commit to all 10 sessions. It is mandatory to attend the first session. If a participant misses more than 2 sessions, they will be asked to withdraw from the group. If you are going to miss a session, please call reception at (403) 945-3900 to let the facilitators know.
