Family Resource Services

Provides Support, Resources and Family Child Care to Parents

We believe that:

  • Parenting is a challenging job
  • All families are capable
  • All parents deserve support

We offer support and resources on parenting topics, child development and issues which affect family life, by providing several workshops and programs.

Parenting Education

Programs help parents to build and enhance skills and confidence in providing a nurturing environment for their children.  They address the needs of all types of parents, caregivers and professionals living with or working with children and youth regardless of family structure, composition or socio-economic background.

Workshops/Groups/Conferences can include:  Comfort, Play & Teach™; Triple P: Positive Parenting Program sessions; Sign, Say & Play; Discipline Tools for your Preschooler; Daddy ‘N Me, Prevent It! Taking Action to Stop Child Sexual Abuse, and Parenting Presentations.

Parent Consultations and Warm Line Calls

These one-on-one or family supports are intended to be preventative and are designed to help parents and caregivers identify and develop their strengths and to be active, involved and respectful leaders in their family and in the optimal development of their children.  The Parent Mentor can offer effective behaviour guidance skills that can make parenting much more enjoyable.

Early Childhood Development

These programs are designed to be a lot of fun and enhance parent-child relationships through positive experiences together.  The children are provided with a wide variety of high quality, interactive, play-based activities that encourage social skills, problem-solving experiences and other skills that can help them to develop their readiness to learn and ensure they start school with the ability to succeed.  It also offers parents and caregivers an opportunity to access resources and build friendships.  Programs include:  Preschool/Parent (caregiver) Groups including Messy Play and More Program; Baby Networks;  Summer Programs; The “One”der Year; Baby Babble; Travelling Tales and Tunes and much more.

Developmental Check-Ups

The first 5 years of life will help to set the stage for your child’s success in school and in life. It is during this time that your child is learning at a phenomenal rate through their play and experiences. It is important to make sure that your child is meeting typical developmental milestones. The ‘Ages & Stages Questionnaire’ is an easy to use tool for parents to complete and is designed for children 2 months to 5 years old. The questionnaire is then returned to a Parent Mentor who will score it and then review the results with the parent. All information is confidential. Pick up your questionnaire at any of our early childhood programs.

Information and Referral

Family Resource Programs provide a portal for information that connects parents, caregivers and professionals with programs, tools, and resources in the agency and in the community that can help raise strong, healthy, well-adjusted children and youth.  This includes:  Social Marketing Campaigns such as National Family Week and Family Violence Prevention Month and National Child Day.
